I Need Your Help...

Hello Again,

I am working on a Reading List for Chelsea.
This next year her History and Literature are
going to work together.  She will be reading
books that feature Missionaries from all over
the  timetable and all over the world.  She will
then construct a journal of what impacted her
from each book including the time period, culture
and key lessons learned.
She will study the geography of the country
that each book is set in.

I was wondering if you would be willing to
share titles of books from this genre that you
have enjoyed?

Thanks,
Becky K.

That sounds really great! Becca will be in 8th grade and I wonder if that would be something she would enjoy...she is an avid reader!
We are also considering Switched on Schoolhouse. I know that the older Duggar children do it and I wonder if it would work for us.
I have been convicted lately about concentrating MORE on Christ in our studies...not just "get the schoolwork done"...part of it. I feel like I am protecting them from the world but not equipping them against the world as much as I should.
Thank you so much for your wisdom!!

This year I had Serena read biographies from Christians during WWII. A couple of them were, "The Hiding Place" and "The girl who loved the Swastika" My son brought home a book from college called "131 Christians Everyone Should Know". It includes Christians throughout history and I'm sure it would be a great one to have. The biographies aren't long (just a couple of pages each), but it would sure give you a great starting ground on anyone else you might want to study, and help you come up with a few you might not think of.
Blessings,
Marcia

Okay, here's one you wouldn't have thought of. This is a modern day missionary story. In fact, they are locals. The book is called "Heaven on Earth, Family Style". We "accidently" picked this book up at a book sale many years ago. It was God's timing. If you can't find it, you can borrow my well-worn copy.
Here is the excerpt from the back of the book.
Once Mennonite farmers from Pennsylvania, Norman and Betty Charles and their family spent ten years as missionaries in Brazil. Later, they returned to Pennsylvania and began Abundant Living Ministries, a counseling organization seeking to help people apply biblical principles in their lives.
